Franco Albini. Ina's Pavilions in the Milan and Bari Fairs 1935 (Paperback): Federico Bucci Franco Albini. Ina's Pavilions in the Milan and Bari Fairs 1935 (Paperback)
Federico Bucci
R293 Discovery Miles 2 930 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The book is dedicated to a fresh and interesting building - that can be classified as a little exhibition pavilion. Watching the old images kindly provided by the Franco Albini Foundation Archive, many theoretical and practical aspects of these works do not stand out clearly: the photographic medium seems to be unable to convey topics and suggestions of these experiments. The high concentration of contents normally given to the theme of pavilion seldom makes an architectural manifesto out of this particular typology, but when it happens, so many factors have to be taken into consideration, that the overall perception becomes harder. The fact that the eventual aim of this typology is to advertise something, happens to even raise the rate of complexity, pushing the architect towards a design that must not compete with the advertised brand. Does it seem little to you? It is, anyway, already quite enough to justify treating those "small works" as equals of the bigger and important architectures. The building is overload: proportions, rhythms, geometry and other architectural elements are shown in the book through the usual architectural 3d model and through "invisible edge" views. This way of presenting the buildings helps to understand for the first time, having removed the "chiaroscuro" and the back lighting of the photos, the structure and the exhibition apparatus designed by Albini. As a scientific experiment, important results are revealed: an astonishing presence of "transparency" and a deep and the hard battle among container and content.

This volume is a close analysis of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, the revolutionary $600 million project designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano and donated by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to the city of Athens for the construction of the National Library, Opera House, and a public park set in grounds covering 170,000 square meters. A truly urban design dedicated to the citizens of Athens that marks the recovery and revitalization of a derelict site on the edge of the inner city. A downloadable app for Apple and Android provides access to additional multimedia content, including virtual tours, drone videos, and photo galleries.

565 Broome Soho - Renzo Piano Building Workshop (Hardcover): Federico Bucci, Carol Willis 565 Broome Soho - Renzo Piano Building Workshop (Hardcover)
Federico Bucci, Carol Willis
R1,517 Discovery Miles 15 170 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This volume is dedicated to the 565 Broome Street skyscraper, the first residential building conceived by Renzo Piano and designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in the city of New York. Developed by Bizzi & Partners, the double tower occupies a corner space in the SoHo district, close to the Hudson River. Rich and fascinating iconography and a text by Federico Bucci and Carol Willis describe the design, the main features of the building, and how it relates to the city and the light that surrounds it in a unique way. The photographic selection is divided into thematic chapters, starting from the representation of the building s urban context and then illustrating the different parts of the project, the formal and structural characteristics of the towers, and the interiors. It also describes the contemporary artwork by Susumu Shingu that occupies the space between the towers.
